Medusa Snakes grow from her head. She is the land around her - the eggs of the cosmos to the river of life to the plains of formation to the gentle rolling hills of earth. I had a vision of a snake-headed woman who was both a woman of the land and a queen of creation. She told me her name was Medusa, but she was clearly not the Medusa of Greek mythology. I always wondered, what kind of power Medusa had that she was so feared by the Greeks they thought her gaze would turn them to stone? As I painted her I knew. She turns you into what she sees in your heart. Acrylic on canvas. 22 X 28 inches. Medusa prints and cards available through Fine Arts America. |
